Greenstone and Kowhai
I wanted to create something that was uniquely New Zealand, and when I think about my home country I often think about the native Kowhai trees with their beautiful yellow flowers. I also think of the wonderful pieces of Greenstone or Pounamu which are carved into beautiful pieces of jewellery, gifted and worn both here and overseas.
This piece sold at the "2023 SAQA Benefit Auction and has arrived safely at its new home, so very happy that this raised money for SAQA which is leading me to many new opportunities.
"I was the lucky person who purchased the art quilt you made for the SAQA auction. I have never been to New Zealand but had a roommate at business school in Boston from Australia so have visited her several times. So I felt a neighborly connection and thought your quilt was beautiful.
I showed it to my 84 year old aunt Saturday who had been my dear friend for most of my 60 years and is the reason I now live in Oregon. She LOVES LOVES LOVES it.
That’s how I feel about your work. It’s beautiful and I admire it greatly. But it now graces my aunts bedroom wall and she shines with her love of it. When she passes I know I will get it back!
Thanks for making it. It’s brought joy and raised money too!"
